Is my baby too old for posed newborn pictures?!
In a perfect world, I prefer to photograph newborns between 3-14 days old. There is variation there for boys that are circumcised, or NICU graduates. Circumcised boys fall into the later age group, closer to 14 days. Nicu graduates vary, based on their gestation at birth, their adjusted age, and their size can also factor in.
Meet Aidan. Aidan was born at 34 weeks, weighing 4lbs and 14oz. He had his newborn session as soon as he was home from NICU, around 2 weeks old. This was Aidan at his newborn session (see below, image 1)
Aidan's parents purchased a grow with me 1 year package, to capture his major milestones. At 3 1/2 months old (2 months adjusted age), Aidan came for his 3 month pictures. While he was much more alert, aware, he was also able to be swaddled and posed for some more newborn-style images. This was so sweet to see so much growth, and proves that the age for newborn sessions, can be extended! (see images below)
Now meet Roman. Roman was also born at 34 weeks, weighing 4lbs and 14oz. Here is Roman at his first newborn session at 2 weeks old
Now take a look at Roman at 3 months old, 6 weeks adjusted (see below)

Meet Khirad. Khirad came at 4 days old, and wasn't in a good mood. In the image below, she came back at 2 months old for more pictures.
Meet Damian. 6 weeks old and over 11lbs already. He was a dream to pose, and was so good to me!
I hope these examples of my past sessions, give you hope, that your Photographer can still capture some amazing images for you. While not all babies are going to do it at 3 months old, some will!
